Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
I was experiencing constant numbness in my right thumb and went to a GP to have it checked out. I was put on anti-inlfammatories as well as cortizone for 5 days in conjunction with a splint. The diagnose was Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
The GP referred me to a hand specialist Occupational Therapist before seeing an Upper Limb specialist. I had complained about numbness running down my arm a few months prior, but I felt like this was ignored. Two weeks later the diagnose was confirmed by the Upper Limb Specialist who booked me in for an operation.
Two days later my daughter suggested I see Dr Guy Ashburner. After one 1-hour consultation, the numbness was gone.
It was in fact not Carpal Tunnel but a restriction of blood flow from my shoulder area! I went for a check up a week later, and still the numbness had not returned!
I can thankfully say that my operation has been cancelled and I am free to write my book as planned over the holiday period.
Thank you Dr Ashburner!
